Tong Seng Nursery (Karak)

Have you eaten black thorn durians before? Frankly, I have not. But now I can say that I have at least seen small plants of this variety of the king of fruit.

While passing through Karak, a town between Bentong and Mentakab in Pahang, I spotted a nursery after I exited the highway and along the main road leading into the town. It has a lot of fruit trees to offer. I stopped for a while to check them out. And black thorn durian or locally known as durian duri hitam was among them!

I spoke to the lady boss that was in the shop behind the nursery. Mrs Tong explained that the durian saplings were grafted using seedlings that served as rootstocks.

Established in 1983, Tong Seng Nursery opens daily from 8.30am to 9.00pm.
