Lanskap Anggun

>>  Monday, July 26, 2010

Lanskap Anggun is a unique nursery that has lots of garden croton and Chinese fringe flower shrubs in many sizes. You would not miss this nursery when you are driving along the busy Jalan Ipoh-KL main road as the foliage colours of garden croton are just so outstanding.

The operator has been in this business for about 20 years. Besides retailing plants, garden landscaping service is also available.

The nursery is opened everyday except on Sunday, from 9.00am to 6.00pm.

Plant Variety Rating: 3.75 | There are lots of garden croton shrubs, palm and Chinese fringe flower plants.

While there I also saw some big bird's nest ferns and other attractive foliage plants like calathea and caladium.

At one corner, I saw some young fruit trees and other kind of shrubs.

Plant Condition Rating: 4 | The plants are in good condition.

Layout Rating: 4.0 | The plants are all arranged in groups and in rows. Most of them are placed on the ground and in the open. There are some really young plants, growing from cuttings, on racks.

Garden Products Rating: 2.0 | I saw many ceramic pots which are in many different sizes.

Peggy @ PJ Sea Park

>>  Monday, July 19, 2010

Some months ago, I had the privilege of meeting Peggy at a wet market. I found out that she grows a number of plants at her residence at PJ Sea Park. Hence I decided to pay her a visit.

Peggy started to retail plants about a year ago. Amazingly she is also a retired circus tiger-tamer! So what an interesting change of profession it was... from handling animals to dealing with plants :-)

.

Peggy sells her plants in a van that is normally parked at wet markets and at her house which doubles up as a plant retail centre, whenever customers go knocking on her door. The official opening hours is between 10.00am and 10.00pm.

As I entered this home-based nursery, I saw lots of beautiful roses right at the entrance. I was also delighted to see some 'little bird flower' and 'red-bird' plants at one corner of the premises.

Plant Variety Rating: 3.5 | Although the place (the compound of the house) is not big, I could see that there are many kinds of plants in-stock, including ornamental, herb and fruit plants.

I bought a rosemary plant from her that I had to order and pick up later as at the time of my initial visit, the plant was out of stock.

There are a number pretty flowering plants like birds-of-paradise, desert roses, coral vines and roses.

I particularly like the huge variety of herb plants that she has.

Plant Condition Rating: 3.0 | Most plants are in average condition only but fortunately the rosemary that Peggy got for me was in excellent shape :-)

Layout Rating: 3.0 | The plants are all placed outside with most of them under some big trees.

Besides retailing plants, Peggy also offers rheumatism massage (walk-in and house call) service using her very own traditional circus oilment, which was produced especially for her earlier livelihood in circus amusement. The oilment is said to be good for healing muscle cramps, numbness and sprains. Hence, if you have any body aches you may want to give Peggy a call. I have not tried her service myself though :-)

Zaleha Orchid & Nursery

>>  Monday, July 12, 2010

I am so glad that I managed to check out this nursery which is in Ijok and I must say that this is one interesting find! The nursery is located in the spacious compound of the home of the family/owner.

When I was there, I was first greeted by an attendant and later by the owner's daughter, Zaharahima Tohar, who came home while I was browsing the plants here.

Zaleha Orchid & Nursery was founded by Zaharahima's mother, Puan Zaleha, some 13 years ago who started growing orchids as a hobby and soon turned it into a business/nursery.

The nursery specialises in orkid kampung, vanda and mokara species. You can just visit the nursery at anytime (as long as the operators are around!). For orchid lovers, if you are somewhere near Ijok or Ijok itself, don't miss this orchid farm. They sell orkid kampung mostly in stem cuttings (not rooted) - hence costing less!

Plant Variety Rating: 4.0 | There are lots of wonderful orchids and some ornamental plants.

I really love the orkid kampung that I saw right at the entrance. They have planted the orchids in a row, forming a hedge and some in large pots forming a tower. Many were in bloom and it just made me think that I should have this orchid planted in my garden perimeter as well. One amazing thing about orkid kampung is that they do not need any shade!

The rest of the orchids are of mostly of dendrobium, vanda and mokara species.

The ornamental plants, anthruium, aglaonema, begonia, staghorn fern, moss rose, fern, rambut puteri mayang sari were looking really good as well.

Last but not least is the desert rose. They have big and medium-size plants. I just love how they use the moss rose to cover the base.

Plant Condition Rating: 4.5 | All orchids and ornamental plants are in really good condition.

Layout Rating: 4.5 | They have orchids in bloom right at the front, all ready for customers to pick up, with the farm situated at the back. It was so easy to move around as the plants are either on racks or hung. They are all arranged in rows and pretty neat.

Garden Products Rating: 1.0 | I didn't see any pots or garden accessories but they have fertilisers for orchids.

Terra Greens Trading

>>  Monday, July 5, 2010

I reached this nursery after 6pm and was delighted to find that the gate was still open. I quickly went in to check out the plants as it was getting dark. The little bonsai plants and little bird flower plants immediately caught my attention.

As with many nurseries that I have visited, this one also has the national flag at its entrance. In fact, it has two! What a patriotic person the nursery owner must be.

Terra Greens Trading has been in business for about 5 years and they open from 9.00am to 7.00pm daily.

Plant Variety Rating: 4.0 | There are lots of beautiful tropical shrubs, bonsais, creepers, trailing plants and even desert roses.

At a slope, in the nursery, I saw many small plants that look really nice, such as the oriental thuja and philodendron species. I also saw a nice collection of aglaonemas, ground orchids and anthuriums.

They have beautiful calathea, homalomena and caladium plants as well.

Under a shade were some cool bird's nest fern staghorn fern, begonias and hoyas.

My favourite were the little bonsai plants.

Plant Condition Rating: 4 | All plants are in good condition especially the dracaenas and palms.

Layout Rating: 3.0 | It wasn't easy to go around the nursery as the plants were placed close to one other. And there were slopes to climb before you could get to the back of the nursery to check out more plants there.

Garden Products Rating: 3.5 | I saw lots of pots at the back of the nursery.

The nursery is just off the main road. To view the map, click here.
