In front of this nursery is a large, eye-catching signage. Foliage Group of Companies include Foliage Landscape Services Sdn Bhd, Foliage Asia-Pacific (M) Sdn Bhd and Foliage Builders (M) Sdn Bhd.



Foliage at Garden Mart opens from 8.30am to 6.00pm daily. They sell plants and render garden maintenance services to commercial properties, condominiums, bungalows, factories and hotels. Calling themselves the garden maintenance specialist, they have trained personnel to water, prune and fertilise your garden.

Foliage specialises in interior plantscaping (plant rental for events and functions), exterior landscaping, renovation and construction (soft and hardscape projects).



Plant Variety Rating: 4 | About 100 types of tropical ornamental palms, shrubs, trees, climbers, ground covers and aquatic plants. Mostly young and in-between in terms of age.

They have plants like anthurium, dracaena, yucca, palm, spathiphyllum, philodendron, aglaonema, dieffenbachia, calathea, succulent, snake plant, coleus, costuse and begonia.



At the back of the nursery, there are a number of odd-shaped ferns like staghorn.



Plant Condition Rating: 4 | The plants are in good condition.



Plants like bromeliad, musseanda, golden money plant, croton, bucida, ficus, jatropha, yellow crossandra, rubber plant and excoecaria bicolour are also available.

Layout Rating: 4 | All the plants here are very well organised, decorating the place like a showroom/garden. Some are placed on racks and are neatly arranged. There are a lot of room to walk about and around the place.



Garden Products Rating: 4.5 | There are a variety of contemporary-designed ornamental ceramic and plastic pots, aquatic pots and many hardscape products like stones and concrete slabs. They sell soil and fertilisers here too.

Ukay Nursery

I was at Ampang recently looking for a nursery to visit. I went all the way to Taman Rimba Ampang at Bukit Belacan and asked around if there is any nursery nearby. I was told that there is none there but there is a big one at Ulu Klang.



Following the directions given by a helpful gentleman, I headed to Ukay Nursery, located at Taman Pinggiran Ukay.



There, I found many amazing plants that were rarely found at other nurseries I had visited. I ended up buying two beautiful young bromeliad plants from Zeti, the daughter of the owner. I must say that she charged me very reasonably :-)



Zeti's father has been in the nursery business for more than 30 years while this nursery has been there for about 10 years now. Besides Taman Pinggiran Ukay, they also have two other nurseries at Taman Keramat. I was told that they have a joint-venture business in Dubai also.



Ukay Nursery opens from 9.00am daily. On Monday to Thursday, it closes at 6.00pm and on Saturday and Sunday at 7.00pm. It's closed on Fridays and for two days each year during Hari Raya.

Besides retailing plants, they also provide landscaping and rock garden services. They have nursery farms in Sepang and Malacca and at this nursery itself, I found many young plants that were and are being propagated.



Plant Variety Rating: 5 | More than 500 types of orchids, flowering shrubs, ferns, palms, trees and aquatic plants (Zeti told me they actually have thousands of plants!).



Here they have the largest stock of bromeliads (especially air plants from the Tillandsia genera) I have ever come across among the many nurseries I have visited thus far. After the visit, I did a search on bromeliad and found that there are about 8 common cultivated genera i.e. Aehmea, Billbergia, Cryptanthus (never knew that this is also a bromeliad!), Dyckia, Guzmania, Neoregelia, Tillandsia and Vriesea.




There are a number of cacti and kalanchoes with very interesting patterns and shapes.



At one part of the nursery, I spotted some desert roses.



Aquatic plants are found in this nursery too.



There are anthurium in different shades.



All time favourites like frangipani, rose, rangoon creeper, glorybush, senduduk, powder puff flower and java gloryblower plants are also available.



I was impressed by the many nice-looking donkey's ear kalanchoes in hanging basket.



The orchids here are imported from Taiwan.



I noticed also some Dorstenia congo figs (a plant with weird flowers).



Plant Condition Rating: 3.5 | The plants are generally in decent condition. The bromeliads are all in astounding condition though!

Even the senduduk, brinjal and rubber plants here are in pretty good shape.



Layout Rating: 3 | Though the plants are all over the place - some hung, some on the ground and some on racks - they have quite an interesting 'landscaped trail'.



There are even stairs to climb, verandah that overlooks a little pond and paths with a lot of fascinating plants to discover.



Products Rating: 3 | There are a number of ornamental ceramic and plastic pots. Some seeds are available for sale as well.

One Stop Garden Solution

One Stop Garden Solution has been in business for about four years. They conceptualise the planning of gardens, design and construct contracted landscaping projects, rent plants and maintain gardens.



At the premises, there is an air-conditioned art gallery where many Balinesss works are on display.



The nursery opens daily from 9.00am to 6.00pm and closes during Hari Raya and Chinese New Year public holidays.



Plant Variety Rating: 5 | About 300 to 400 types of trees, ferns, shrubs, palms, creepers and climbers. All the plants occupy a huge space at the back of the gallery, which also serves as its frontage.

As I enter the nursery, I saw many beautiful flower plants like lantana, cat's whiskers, water lily, amazon blue and frangipani.



At the foyer of the gallery, there are many ball cactuses.



At the place where there are a number of hanging pots, I discovered some hoyas and spider tresses.



There have many flower shrubs and creepers such as medinilia, passiflora purple, hibiscus, gold shower, jatropha, kemboja, durante, mussaenda and costus.



On the floor of a covered area some hydrangeas, coin plants, desert roses and spider plants caught my attention.



At a pond are aquatic plants like typha and lotus.



Plant Condition Rating: 3.5 | The plants are in moderately decent condition.



Layout Rating: 4 | Very organised with many plants of the same type being placed together, in plots, at an open area. It is easy to browse for plants one by one, comfortably.



Garden Products Rating: 4 | There are a number of ornamental ceramic and garden products and terrariums.



Other than garden products, they have garden decorative items too.



Gravels, soil and fertilisers can be found here as well.

Xin Yoong Nursery @ Garden Mart

Xin Yoong Nursery is not only a nursery but also a specialist in wholesaling of plants, landscaping, turfing, plant renting and construction of waterfalls and fountains.



This nursery, located at Garden Mart, opens daily from 8.00am to 7.00pm and sells a lot of tropical plants.

Plant Variety Rating: 4 | About 100 types of tropical ornamental palms, shrubs, trees, climbers, ground covers as well as aquatic plants. Mostly young and in-between in terms of age.

There is a big open space at the front of the nursery and a lot of young plants are placed here such as croton, dracaena, bougainvillea, beautifully trimmed fringe flower plant, euphorbia milii, juniper, desert rose, rain lily, snake plant, cyperus, ficus and lipstick palm.




Under the shades are plants placed on racks and some hung. These include ferns, shrubs and flower plants like calathea, caladium, anthurium, orchid, espiscia, philodendron, boston compacta fern, copper leaf, aglaonema, dieffenbachia, crassula, peace lily, water lily and compact yucca.



Plant Condition Rating: 3.75 | The plants are in generally good condition.



Layout Rating: 3.75 | The place is fairly organised with plants arranged on racks, some hung and some placed on the ground although some parts are a bit cramped.



Garden Products Rating: 3.5 | There are a variety of ornamental ceramic and plastic pots. Soil and fertilisers are found here too.
