Occupying a lot at Garden Mart, Bonsai Alley opens for business at 10.00am and closes at 7.00pm everyday. As the name suggests, they only deal with bonsai.

The services at this nursery include selling bonsai trees and bonsai accessories, landscaping services and grooming of bonsai (including house visits). 
 
What started out as a hobby about 20 years ago for the owner turned into business today. The most expensive bonsai tree here is about RM2,500. The tree is more than 10 years old. A small/young bonsai tree costs about RM30.

The owner (Silver) explains that bonsai gardening started more than 5,000 years ago in China. The value of the tree lies in the health and appearance of the tree and not solely on the age of the plant.

If you have never grown a bonsai tree before, start to learn the art by getting a young and not so expensive tree first. The word 'bonsai' actually means 'tray planting'. 'Bon' means tray and 'Sai' means growing or planting. 
 
Since the tree is planted in a tray (compact and shallow), it grows slowly. Mastering the art of bonsai cultivation includes knowing the techniques for shaping, watering and re-potting in various styles of containers.

RH Trading Enterprise is a small nursery nestled at an open space, next to a row of shophouses along Jalan Batu Muda 2 at Taman Batu Muda. Plant Variety Rating: 3 | About 40 types of tropical ornamental palm, shrubs and trees. Mostly in-between in terms of age. I saw flower plants like jatropha, amaryliss, yelow alder, rose, canna, desert rose, heliconia and orchid. It is said that Desert Rose can live to be well over 100 years. In this nursery, the oldest plants are about twenty-ish years old and they are selling for about above RM2,000.

Some new hybrid species even have double-petal flowers.

Kohortica Nursery @ Garden Mart - CLOSED

Garden Mart at Tropicana is 'your concept garden nurseries' with 38 nursery and gardening product retail lots. The first nursery that I stopped by when I visited the place recently was Kohortica Nursery.

The entrance of this nursery is very welcoming as it has a spacious open space and customers will be greeted by many small potted plants like portulaca, yesterday-today-tomorrow, copper leaf, codyline, Chinese croton firestorm, dracaena etc.

Kohortica Nursery opens daily from 8.00am to 6.00pm. On Saturday and Sunday it closes at 7.00pm.

Plant Variety Rating: 3.5 | More than 50 types of tropical ornamental palm, shrub, tree, climber, ground cover as well as aquatic plants. Mostly young or in-between in terms of age.

I saw a number of flower plants and climbers like desert petunia, golden shrimp plant, yellow walking iris, bromeliad, azalea, allamanda, anthurium, euphorbia milii, copper leaf etc.

On the right side of the nursery, there are many plants lining up on a terrace such as young snake plant, cacti, climbers with flowers, water loving plants, shaped ficus, firecracker flower etc.

I also saw a number of green and lively yuccas, costus, juniper, rain lily, alocasia, cyperus papyrus, ponytail palm, agave, cycas etc.

Under a shed, there are bromeliad, azalea, dieffenbachia, dracaena, staghorn fern, bird's nest fern, old-man's-beard, spider plant, calathea, golden money plant, orchid etc.

Plant Condition Rating: 4 | The plants are generally in fine and healthy condition.

At one corner, I noticed a number of grown desert rose and cryptanthus plants.

Layout Rating: 4 | The whole place is well organised and shoppers can browse in comfort. Plants are neatly arranged on racks as well as on the ground.

Garden Products Rating: 4 | There are a variety of ornamental ceramic and plastic pots as well as fertilisers and soil.
