Rumput Mutiara Landscape & Nursery

This nursery may not look big from the outside but you will realise that it's actually quite big when you step inside! Rumput Mutiara Landscape & Nursery opens from 9.00am to 6.30pm daily.

The nursery was operating from Balakong for about eight years before moving to its current location some six years ago. The nursery attendant told me that they are a one-stop centre for gardeners.

Here you would find plenty of trees and shrubs displayed right from the entrance to the sheltered premises inside. Amongst them are ficus benjamina, ficus bonsai, bougainvillea, palm, thuja, bucida, yucca and many more.

Plant Variety Rating: 4.5 | There are more than 500 types of plants in this nursery. The bigger trees, shrubs and ground covers are displayed in the open while ferns and climbers are placed undershade.

I saw some lovely thunbergia vine, musseanda, ornamental chilly, lipstick vine, nong nooch vine, allamanda and plume plant.

There are many varieties of croton and green ferns like money plant, cordyline, aglaonema, palm, calathea, syngonium, dieffenbachia, dracaena, staghorn fern and spathiphyllum plants.

They also have attractive flower plants like anthurium, kalanchoe rose, impatiens and roses.

At one place, I saw small pots of cactus, gloxinia and African violets.

Plant Condition Rating: 4 | All plants are in good condition.

I spotted some nice herb plants like polygonum chinense or yin wo yip in the midst of many ornamental plants.

The attendant mentioned that they always stock up festive plants, for example during Chinese New Year you will find many lime trees here. As Christmas is around the corner, I saw many poinsettia plants. Besides that they also have ze ze plants.

Layout Rating: 4 | There are ample walking space and the plants can be browsed easily. But the place is huge and they have plenty of plants, so a type of plant can take up a lot of space. Hence you have to walk a lot to discover all that they have.

There were many young trees and small shrubs that are in very good condition and I am sure that they will do well when brought back to your house :-)

There are lots of bonsai trees as well.

Garden Products Rating: 4 | There are plenty of pots, gravels, slabs, gardening accessories and fertilisers.

The nursery is located along Jalan Serdang Raya and near Astro HQ. Click here for the map.

Update @ 23 March 2014: This nursery has been relocated and the spot has been taken over by a used car dealer.

What an interesting nursery! All the plants look very lush and I like the way they've stocked up on other garden needs as well.

In my region we do not have such options all under one roof! Thanks for the lovely tour!
